How do I top up my prepayment gas meter?

It depends which type of meter you have. Here's what you need to know for traditional and smart gas meter top ups, and how to get a refund every time too. 

Regardless of your meter type, you'll get an email from the Fused team that tells you:

  • What type of gas meter you have

  • Where you need to go to top up

Smart prepayment gas meter 🤖

If you have a smart gas pre-payment meter:

  • Check your emails for information from the Fused team on how to top up online or via an app

  • Remember, you get a full refund for every top up, so make sure you get a receipt/proof of purchase every time

Traditional prepayment gas meter 🔥

First step: Registering a top-up card:

  • Check your emails for an RTI code from the Fused team
    • This is a seven-digit reference number that identifies your meter.
  • Find your nearest Payzone for the next step
    • Note: Click cancel if the link above asks for a login! You don't need one.
    • Make sure you head to a PayZone that has a green lightning bolt symbol like this:

  • At the PayZone request a blank top-up card for your gas meter.
    • You'll need your RTI code to do this, 'cause it links the card to your specific meter.
    • 🚨Note: You won't be able to top up at this point. The next step is vital.
  • Head home with your new card and insert it into your meter for 60s 
    • This registers the top-up card with your meter.
  • Now you can head back to a PayZone to top up as often as you need. 

Second step: Regular top-ups

  • Take your top up-card to a PayZone when your gas meter starts to run low.
  • Hand over your top-up card and say how much you'd like to add to your meter.
    • Make sure you get a receipt!
  • Return home and add your card to the meter to top up.
  • Take a photo of your receipt and upload it here so we can refund you ASAP!

  • Wait 3-5 working days for your refund.
