What does joint and several liability mean?
This is a key part of your Fused terms and conditions. It essentially means that everybody on your contract has equal legal responsibility for the cost of your package.
If somebody on your package misses a monthly payment, we’ll initially chase them for the amount owed, but may split the overdue amount between everybody else on the package if this isn’t successful.
You’ll always be notified of any extra charges because of the Joint and Several Liability clause.
You can arrange separately for that housemate to pay you back, but this isn’t a part of your contract with Fused.
Example:
- Adam has a Fused package with Bea, Carl and Dina.
- They each pay £60 a month.
- Adam misses a payment one month and doesn’t respond to any of our attempts to solve the problem and clear the debt.
- Bea, Carl and Dina are notified about the outstanding debt, and arecharged an extra £20 each to cover the outstanding debt on their package.
